DELEGATE TO RELIABLE HELPERS.
BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo.
Numerous innovative technologies support you in various ways and guarantee the highest level of comfort and safety. So you can focus on one of the important things in life – carefree driving pleasure.
DRIVING ASSISTANT.
The Driving Assistant package combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and Approach and Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation.
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the turn indicator has been activated.
Whereas the Approach Warning with City Brake Activation detects vehicles, the Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation reacts to pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes heavily, the BMW responds immediately when the Approach Warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins blinking and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h).
The Pedestrian Warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes. This function can be limited by darkness and fog.
CAMERA SYSTEMS.
Park Distance Control, Surround View, Rear View Camera: Enjoy a clear view in the area around your vehicle when manoeuvring into parking spaces and at road exits.
Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear allows you to park safely and comfortably thanks to optical and acoustic signals.
Surround View shows your vehicle in the Control Display with the aid of a projection from above. The accompanying Side View system guarantees a better overview when visibility is poor at road exits.
The Rear View Camera provides welcome support when you are reversing into parking spaces at speeds of less than 20 km/h.
PARKING ASSISTANT.
The Parking assistant makes parking parallel to the road easier. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces while driving past at a low speed (below 35 km/h) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars.
When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Parking assistant takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also gives instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals. This way the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.
ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP & GO.
Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function including radar-based approach control warning with Brake Activation provides you with more comfort, greater safety and effective support at all times.
Radar sensors permanently scan the carriageway, adapting your speed and maintaining your distance from the vehicle ahead. When the road is clear again, the system accelerates automatically. And, thanks to approach control warning, you can enjoy a safe drive in any situation – even when Cruise Control is not currently activated. If the vehicle brakes sharply, it first warns you with an optical and then an acoustic signal. If you do not respond by braking, your BMW will react and brakes for you.
BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.
All information in your field of vision.
The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display projects relevant information directly into your field of vision, thus enabling you to pay full attention to what’s happening on the road ahead.
Depending on the equipment fitted in your vehicle, this information consists not only of High-Guiding messages from the navigation system, but also Speed Limit Info data, Check Control messages and Lane Departure Warning status displays.
Ultra-brilliant resolution.
The symbols projected onto your windscreen appear in ultra-brilliant resolution. Graphics make full use of the entire colour spectrum, enabling a particularly realistic depiction of traffic symbols. The display is in an ergonomically advantageous position on the windscreen, which you can then adjust to suit your personal needs without being distracted from events on the road ahead.
The intensity of the projection adapts automatically according to how light it is outside; there is also a night and daytime display. Brightness can be configured using the iDrive menu. You can also select which information should be shown in addition to the speed display and the warnings from the driver-assistant systems.
SPEED LIMIT INFO INCL. NO-OVERTAKING INDICATOR.
Stay on the safe side – Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking display keeps you informed of the maximum permissible speed as well as overtaking bans.
A special camera monitors relevant traffic signs. Via a control device, this information is processed together with data from the navigation system. As other components in the vehicle, such as the rain sensor, can also be used, the system can also inform you of variable speed limits – for example, in wet weather or temporary restrictions – in line with your current driving situation.
ACTIVE PROTECTION.
Active Protection is the BMW ConnectedDrive preventive passenger protection system. After the front seat belts are buckled, they are automatically pretensioned when the car starts moving.
After the front safety belts are buckled, they are automatically pretensioned when the car starts moving. If a critical situation arises on the road, the front safety belts are reversibly pretensioned if necessary, and the side windows are closed − as is the sliding roof, if there is one. A critical situation would include an emergency stop made by the driver or if the automobile demonstrated excessive understeer or oversteer.
When the vehicle is fitted with Approach Warning or Approach Warning with Brake Activation, potential collisions with moving or stationary vehicles ahead can be recognised in advance (within the system’s limits).
In certain accident situations, the system can bring the vehicle to a standstill without any intervention from the driver. This helps to reduce the likelihood of a follow-up collision and to minimise the damage caused by one.
In addition, the Attentiveness Assistant monitors the driver’s behaviour for signs of fatigue. This system analyses the steering response and reacts to irregular driving behaviour by issuing a message in the Control Display suggesting the driver take a break.
